I am so thrilled for Daylight Savings time. It seems like it has taken a long time but it's finally here. What beautiful weather too! Last week Keith and I went camping in Pismo Beach for our 26th Wedding anniversary. We had a great time even with the cold, and rainy weather. We were able to get in some good walks, runs, bike rides, a visit to the movies, and a few nice meals out. Christopher came up for the weekend to ride his bike, visit friends, and hang out with us. Good times!
I have always been one to exercise but one thing I never did was run. This last week, at the beach I ran! Christopher gave me a Heart Rate Monitor watch for Christmas and I wanted to try it out. I decided to keep my heart rate up and the only way I could do that was to pick up my pace and run/jog. So I ran for 3 miles on the beach. I have always been a walker and never thought I could run. I always had an excuse whether it was worrying about my knees or my weight being too heavy. I have been telling myself when I get to a certain weight, I would try it. Well, that time is here and so there you go. Mission Accomplished! When I started to run I decided to keep going until something hurt or if I couldn't breath. I was actually surprised at how good I felt. Nothing hurt, I wasn't out of breath and I believe that's because my fitness level is good with all the bike riding, walking, and elliptical use. The next day I felt it in my legs and hips but it was a good feeling. After work last night, Keith and I went to the JBHS track where I walked 2 laps, ran 12 (3 miles) and walked again for 2. This is a good start for me. I don't know if this will be my exercise of choice but it's a good change of pace. I will see where it takes me. It feels good to try something new. :)

I finally baked. I made these cookies with almond meal. I have to admit. They weren't great but there is sugar in them and I feel once I have the taste of sugar, I only want MORE, even if they aren't great. I am not sure if it's worth making the healthy version when you really just want a treat here and there of the REAL version. I am sure there are better recipes out there. I baked a Healthy Version of Banana bread with oatmeal, whole wheat flour, and Blueberries. It was very good. I used non fat greek yogurt and applesauce so I don't feel bad about eating the bread as long as I can control my portions. This is the hard part and takes discipline but I am working on it.
